    Hi All,

Notice there's a new entry on the pull-down called 'Digital Code' in addition to the regular 'DVD' and 'Bluray' items. But when I select it, nothing shows up. Does it work for anyone out there?

Also, has anyone figured out how to insert or attach images to posts? The 'Insert Image' icon only lets you specify a http link and not from a file.

To the left of the "insert image" icon, there is a "host an image" icon. Select that and then drag and drop the picture or use "select files".

Digital code says you can download the digital version of the movie to the device of your choice. Once you download it you own it. New option. Clicked on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and it was $9.99 to own. Probably worth buying the DVD and getting the code with the DVD.

I suspect that when Redbox is forced to buy retail copies of movies because they didn't reach an agreement with the movie distributor, they end up getting the DVD/BR and the code that anyone else would when they buy from the store. It looks like they are now trying to make a little extra money by selling that code separately from the used DVD/BR. When they get a rental version from a distributor, then they won't have those codes.

GotGv2 was one of the movies that they rented retail versions of the DVD/BR.

I bet you are exactly right. $10 seems high though. But maybe people will do it. Wonder if the are allowed to sell those. I am sure they wouldn't do anything illegal.

The price sounded high to me to, but then I checked Vudu, and they are selling the HD digital version for $19.99. The regular price for the BR/DVD/Digital is also $19.99 right now. So, someone could look at the $9.99 price and see it as a way to get a digital copy for half price. Personally, I wouldn't buy it as for this particular movie, I'll bet we see the BR at $9.99 for the holiday season.

I think it is legal for them to sell this under the first sale doctrine. It is the same law that allows them to buy retail copies and rent them even without explicit authorization from the copyright holder. In this regard, it allows Redbox to dispose of, including sell, copyright material as they choose. (I am not a lawyer.)

    Hi hope2k and barbecue,

Thanks barbecue on the image attachment help.

Thanks hope2k for the explanation of the digital code. I thought it was some way to stream the movie online as a rental like vudu or fandangonow, instead of having to pick up the physical medium.

The digital code is a way to stream the movie online. It is not being offered for rental. You can only buy it. When you buy the code, you do not have to pick it up. I have not tried it, but I would think the code will be emailed to you. You then redeem that code at a online site like UltraViolet. Ownership can then be shared with other stream sites like Vudu. It is the same process as when you buy the BR at a store and get a digital copy.
